Particle Velocity Sensors

U Regular

1D acoustic particle velocity

The ½ inch U Regular integrates one single Microflown sensor. The Microflown is the first transducer that can physically measure the acoustic particle velocity directly. Any sound field is described by two complementary acoustic properties, the acoustic particle velocity vector and the scalar sound pressure. The U Regular captures a one-dimensional component of the particle velocity vector.

FEATURES

  • Broadband response 20 Hz - 10 kHz
  • Maximum level up to 132 dB
  • Max temperature 85 °C

APPLICATIONS

  • Acoustic Particle Velocity
  • Non-contact vibration measurements
  • Vibro-Acoustic Troubleshooting

Non-contact vibration measurements

In the acoustic near-field of a vibrating surface, particle velocity is often much larger than sound pressure. Provided that the excitation surface has a high impedance, the acoustic particle velocity and the structural velocity become directly proportional. This physical phenomenon enables the use of particle velocity transducers for non-contact vibration measurements. Furthermore, positioning sensors in the near-field of the source can also be beneficial for more than only non-contact vibrations e.g. high-resolution source localization or complex acoustic troubleshooting.
